With the onset of the bushfire season much earlier than anticipated, now is the time to prepare for any future emergencies. Here are some helpful guidelines:
WHO?
Everyone needs to be aware of potentially disastrous situations. Help yourself, your families and also your customers by alerting them to the options available in protecting themselves and their property.
HOW?
Don’t add to the risk (don’t flick cigarette butts out of the car window), follow directions, be alert. In bushfire prone areas, be proactive and make sure those around you are prepared and know how to use equipment at the appropriate time.
WHEN?
Don’t leave it till the last minute to check your pump, hoses, nozzles and sprinklers. Even these items need routine maintenance.
WHAT?
Firefighter pumps are used to defend the majority of properties where Fire Rescue Services are not available. Whether you are using water from a dam, tank or swimming pool, make sure you have the correct fittings and quality hoses. If you are using sprinkler systems around the property or from the roof of your house, remember to have these inspected and tested regularly. If you have not purchased and installed any of these items, know what water you have available and use a system that is suitable for you.
Even if after you have gone to great lengths to prepare yourself and are still faced with a life threatening situation, remember that your life and the lives of those around you are the most important thing in the world.
Please be safe this fire season.
DID YOU KNOW?
The first water pump was invented about 2200 years ago by a man named Ctesibius and was used to fight fires by the Egyptians and Romans.
